Horror for the Holidays - Check Out Shiver SuspenStories

One of the coolest projects to return from the dead in the past two years has been the revival of EC Comics. A critical part of comic book history, the line’s original banning coincided with some of the worst censorship laws in America.
Its comeback has launched a range of horror and science fiction–themed titles, including Epitaphs from the Abyss, Cruel Universe, Catacomb of Torment, Blood Type, and, for this holiday season, the one-shot Shiver SuspenStories. All are anthologies of original shorts that are as bold as they are horrifyingly crafted in homage to the classic EC titles of yesteryear.
EC and Oni’s latest, Shiver SuspenStories 2 #1, is a 56-page stocking full of rot and revenge. Dropping on December 10th, the issue features writers David M. Booher, Melissa Flores, George Northy, and Ben H. Winters, delivering stories that cut through the holiday haze. On art is a nightmare parade of Lukas Ketner (Count Crowley), Sami Kivelä (Abbott), Leomacs (Benjamin), and Dan McDaid (Shazam!). The visuals feel like you’re flipping through cursed carols illustrated by ghosts who died on Christmas morning.
But that’s not all. This winter’s one-off brings back a classic EC Comics story, resurrected in its original colors — a restoration that brings a classic back from the living dead. It’s reverent, grotesque, and absolutely perfect, and it’s my first recommendation for a “Horror for the Holidays” comic to buy. Though I can’t spoil it, here’s one hint: expect some dope stories about menorahs and mistletoe.
