The Sapphic Lovecraftian Horror Series “Blink and You’ll Miss It” #4 [Exclusive First Look]
The BOOM! Studios series that bends time and space!
From Something is Killing the Children to Hello Darkness, it is clear that BOOM! Studios knows horror. One spectacular series that checks so many boxes that I personally love in horror is Blink and You’ll Miss It. It’s sapphic. It’s cosmic horror. It’s a surreal journey that bends time and space. I really am the target audience here. Issue #4 is slated to drop in December and our good friends over at BOOM! Studios know that I love this series and gave us the honor of letting us show ya’ll the first look at issue #4! But first, a little about the series.
Blink and You’ll Miss It is from writing duo Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan, who got their start with the best-selling creator-owned series from Image Comics: Kill Your Darlings–which I absolutely adore and couldn’t recommend enough. They are joined by artist Keith Browning who made their first major publisher comic-debut with Blink and You’ll Miss it #1. The visuals in this series are insane! Nobody could have taken us on this journey of mind-bending lovecraftian mystery better than Browning and colorist Brad Simpson, who is known for titles like Stray Dogs–a must read–and is currently working on Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man from Skybound & Image Comics with BOOM! Studios horror alumnus James Tynion IV (Something is Killing the Children, Exquisite Corpses) and artist Dani (The Low, Low Woods, Coffin Bound).
This story starts off by following Jesse Harmon, an older woman who has just returned home to her small town after nearly half a century of being away. She ran away as a teenager leaving behind her parents and the young love of her life, Melody Nelson. As she arrives back home she finds Perennial Harbor in a near apocalyptic state: decrepit, empty, and untouched for decades. As she journeys deeper into the town, us readers begin to find evidence of the Lovecraftian influence on the story–like an other-worldly black church that contrasts the quaint American town.
As Jesse Harmond traverses the unnerving near-abandoned town, she finds her way to Melody Nelson after all these years–but Melody doesn’t remember her. At least, not at first. We soon find out that Melody has potentially died and is tumbling through time. Reality is unraveling around her while she tries to remember who she is and figure out what’s real. And the townspeople? There is something not right about them, they aren’t quite human–at least not anymore. And it all revolves around this mysterious church. And it looks like it’s pretty much confirmed in this first look that there might be an Invasion of the Body Snatchers element here. So without further ado here is the official first look of Blink and You’ll Miss It issue #4:
Melody’s greatest fears are realized as time finally runs out! Reality slips away, casting her into a surreal realm of dazzling and terrifying visions.
